March 19th - Sources say that a self-driving uber car has committed suicide after hitting and killing a woman who was crossing the street today in Tempe, Arizona.
The incident, which caused Uber to pull its fleet of self-driving cars off of the roads, instantly jolted the automated vehicle into a state of shock. While police say the tragedy was clearly accidental, the young car was overridden with guilt and made the terrible decision to drive itself off of a cliff just hours after the crash.
While authorities agree with Uber’s decision to pull their self-driving cars off the roads, local residents are left wondering whether or not human-driven cars should be taken off the roads as well, as fatal car crashes caused by human error are much more common than those caused by robots.
“Tragic events like the one that occurred today are preventable,” said Timothy Jones, a local member of law enforcement. “We have experienced not one, but two unnecessary deaths today, and it’s high time we take the steps needed to make sure that no more lives are lost due to irresponsible driving habits.”
