NFL Compromises On Anthem Protests By Allowing White Players To Kneel
May 24th - Reports indicate that the National Football League (NFL) has decided to compromise on their mandate against national anthem protests by allowing white players in the league to kneel as they see fit.
The NFL, which recently announced that anthem protests (kneeling, sitting, etc.) will not be tolerated in the upcoming season, has made the decision to soften their stance due to a strong backlash from a large number of fans and players.
“We understand that the right to protest is an integral part of our society in America, and should not be completely stifled,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. “Therefore, we have decided to compromise on our ban of national anthem protests, and will allow the white players in our league to kneel during the anthem as they see fit. Non-white players will be required to stand for the anthem or remain in the locker room, or else they will be severely punished. Compromise is one thing, but we can’t have total anarchy.”
The compromise from the NFL appears to have garnered a mixed reception from fans, three-fifths of whom say that it seems to be fair and acceptable.
“When I heard that the NFL was going back on their promise to eradicate the anthem protests, I was furious,” said Randy, a long-time fan of the Atlanta Falcons. “But then I found out it was just a compromise for the white players, so I think I’m cool with it.”
